When do you need a German emissions sticker?
The German Umweltplakette, also called Feinstaubplakette, identifies a vehicle's emissions group. You need it to enter active low-emission zones marked “Umwelt ZONE”. The requirement also applies to vehicles registered outside Germany.
Meeting the emissions standard alone is not enough. The sticker must be clearly displayed on the windscreen and bear the vehicle's registration number.

Do vehicles registered outside Germany need a sticker?
Yes. When entering a signposted low-emission zone, the requirement also applies to vehicles registered outside Germany.
How long is the green sticker valid?
It has no expiry date. You need a new one if your registration number changes, the sticker is damaged or the windscreen is replaced.
Can one sticker be used for multiple vehicles?
No. Each sticker is issued for one vehicle and bears its registration number.
